Amongst the bright lights and commercial awareness of our music being thrusted onto the centre stage our artists stand front and centre on the cusp of Fame.
Those envious, corrupt and greed filled glares of envy were about to pounce with the objective of twisting our pure sound, Manipulating the very DNA of our Dance code and the worst thing of all… It started from within.
At this stage the virus of deception was minuscule, For this years contend was potent vast and varied from Hip Hop to Club Classic Soul with many anthems celebrated locally in micro clubs that infected the high streets nationally bringing the sound of Underground soul tempting the mainstream.
Within this year the Tarquins of the financial sector armed with Filofax’s dared to mingle with regular wine bar goers to embrace the euphoria that swept our nation…

SOUL A:M STAR-DATE 1985 DANCE DECADE 80s

We were so alive! A stark contrast from the Cold War that was playing out on the theatre that is life, Within this very Star-Date we sought Dance music on 
LAND-Dance-Floors SEA-Soul boats and AIR-Pirate radio. 
What you will be able to hear if you listen very carefully to this weeks production is the last year that the artists were able to create because their very soul compelled them to sing out and share what message lies within... 
This Year sees an unwanted attention from the record labels spearheaded by so called music moguls of the commercial market as they lye in wait with envious eyes to coerce, manipulate and tempt artists of Soul into diluting their pure sound for awareness fame and fortune... If this sounds familiar this same agenda happened a decade before in the 70s with Disco and a decade before that with the commercialism of original 60s R&B cemented by the Stax Tamla Motown sound. Do you see the pattern… 
One thing was assured... Our music was simply Solid Soul enjoy.

Welcome to the year that all of the hallmarks indicated that Soul Music artists got it so right, 
Producers continued to enhance the values pioneered in the previous decade whilst to evolution of dance music spilled over onto popular music, culture,  tv and film.
A culmination of Ghetto, street Rap, hip hop & electro morphed...enhanced mainly by airplay from the UK's pirate radio scene,
An explosion of fashion saw a steady incline of sports wear brands become institutions whilst all of this played out amongst a cold work as two superpowers played out politics to a game of Russian roulette tempting the other into pressing the button first...

In this edition of Soul A:M we continue to absorb the essence of the ingredients that collectively progress the evolution of Soul music in the UK and indeed all around the globe.
Within this Star-Date our music continues to evolve as producers continue to bend the envelope testing the constitution that regulates pop music culture.
This year the scene gets colourful, the influence of the B-Boy scene spills over onto the dance-floor as sportswear brands Adidas, Nike, kappa and my fave Fila Bjorne Borg track suit illuminating the already bright lights of any hallowed turf with my petrol blue coolness...
In this very production you will experience the progression of a dominating force, an Unstoppable entity that compelled music lovers to gravitate towards night clubs eager to show off a weeks choreography sweated out in front of your bedroom mirror.

If rumour be believed there was a secret code embedded within the lyrics of Disco for all to embrace...If you were indeed within the Soul-Space to receive its transmittion across the Dance-Floors of the 1970s it read that... Love was the message!After disco's demise [by namesake only] and out of the Oppression and depression of the turn of this new 80s decade, the dance music community once more emerging with a new found enhanced sound filled with pride but was that enough to cut through the barriers!  It was only time that hope would once more materialise in the guise of a wordsmith from the streets who would lay out a stark reality of just how it is if you seek fame and lay claim to riches without gain... A Message which stands tall as a warning for all to this very day Profit or Poet!

Catapulted into a Euphoria that would set the tempo for dance music for decades to follow. Inadvertently acting as a beacon of hope for song writers musicians singers bands, record labels and Disc Jockeys to Ignite a spark that would set up the definitive lights sights and sound of the 1980s.
